We need help finding the connection for Mary Ann Breeze (nee Davis/Davies) to the Reverend Edward Lutwyche Davies.

The Will with a Codicil of Mary Ann Breeze of Knighton, Radnorshire, names the Reverend Edward Lutwyche Davies as one of her executors. The Rev., she says, is her cousin. She leaves her house, in Knighton, Radnorshire, and all its contents to him.

Edward Breeze married Mary Ann Davis on 12th September 1815 in Holy Trinity Church, Clapham, Surrey.

Edward Breeze became High Sheriff of Radnorshire on 25th February 1841.

1841 - HO107 piece 738 folio 41 page 6
Living Coburg House, St Margaret, Westminster
Not born in county

1851 - HO107; Piece: 1480; Folio: 841; Page: 7
High Street, St Margaret, Westminster, London, England
M G Breeze Head Widow 1787 Linen Draper born Llanreath, Radnorshire

1861 - RG09; Parish number: 4233; Enumeration district: 4; Page number:1
Coburg Cottage, Knighton, Radnorshire, Wales
Mary Ann Breeze Head Widow 1785 Fundholder Llanreath, Radnorshire.

We can't find the place 'Llanreath, Radnorshire', there is a place called that in Pembrokeshire but she seems pretty consistent with Radnorshire.

----------------------

Reverend Edward Lutwyche Davies 1804-1895

2nd son of James and Catherine of Hay-on-Wye, Herefordshire (so James would be a brother to Mary Ann's father. Who the blue blazes was her father.

Married Ann Hardwick in Wormbridge, Herefordshire on 5th December 1843.

This is what started the whole search off Edward and his wife Ann had a son and named him Edward Breeze Davies on 31st August 1846 in Wormbridge. We wondered why his middle name was Breeze. Just had to get Mary Ann Breeze's will to see if it gave any clues. When it said that his father was a cousin to Mary Ann that explained it.

1. where was Mary Ann Davies born ?

2. Who was Mary Ann's father ?

3. Who was their common grandfather ?

Go for it, but don't blame me if you get dizzy going around in circles. Been there, done that

:headbang:
Although I did find the announcement of the marriage of the Rev Edward Lutwyche Davies in the Gentleman's Magazine 1844 to Ann Hardwick but that's all.

I have had a squizz at the originals and I don't think that it actually says LLanreath, but Llanraith. If you look closely at the 1861 census, there is what appears to be a rogue . for the i trying to hide by the upstroke of the letter t. Looking at the 1851 census, it looks more like a letter i but with no . above it. However, the original is rather faded, so might be there somewhere...

So, I googled Llanraith and got a hit with Llanwraith in a list of holdings at the Powys Record Office. Page 64 of this document, in the refererence of R/D/MM/538-539. I have absolutely no idea to what this refers as there are a load of foreign (Welsh ;) ) names listed.

Anyway, just a thought....

Llanwraith ? never heard of that either. Just googled it and came up with 2 results and one of them was the one you found. The other was something on fold3 (think google just threw that in to confuse and make up the number of hits.)

There is an Ancestry tree with an Edward Breeze Davies born Essex to Edward Breeze Davis and Ann Crookes. Edward Jnr married Polly Lewis (no idea where---USA?) and passed away in NYC in 1886.
Worth a look if you can.
OOOH just remembered Edward Breeze Davies snr father is down as Edward Ludwig Davies.

Thanks AM. That is the family of the lady I'm helping with this search. EBD passed away on his way back to England to claim his inheritance.

Also found an Edward Mortimer Breeze born 1850 in Llanidloes Montgomeryshire in 1850. Moved to NZ and married there to Catherine McCormack. Probably not related but all those Llan***** names look the same to me.

:D yep

Mary Ann Breeze had a sister on her will named Bridget Burgen. We think she was the wife of Thomas Burgen. Don't and can't find a marriage for them either.

Well, I'm going round in ever decreaing circles, but I found this which probably has absolutely nothing to do with anything.......
Bath Chronicle and Weekly Gazette 2nd January 1896
Davies, Mr. James Hardwick (son of the late Rev. Edward Lutwyche Davies, M.A., Whitehall, Knighton, co. Radnor): last heard of Wilcannia, N.S.W., 1892. Something to advantage. Advt. "Times" Dec 7 1895.

So you know James and Catherine/a baptised 4 children in Hay?
Frances 1798, Catherina 1800, Edward Lutwyche 1803 and Henry Lutwyche 1805.
I cannot find the marriage of James and Catherine :headbang:

We suspect they were the couple who married in Clyro on 13th September 1790.

There is a marriage James Davies and Catherine Beavan.

The surname Lutwyche must come into the equation somewhere.
