Can you find the Clitheros

My Great Grandfather, Charles William Kidd b 1862 Gt Ormond Yd, Middlesex had a sister Louisa b 1866 same place and a brother Samuel b 1867 Battersea. Louisa married John Clithero b 1868 Chiswick and Samuel married Louisa Clithero b 1868 Chiswick. I can find no record of these Clitheros prior to their marriages. I've always wondered if they were brother and sister or perhaps even twins. Could anyone find them for me?

The closest I can come is, Hannah Louisa Clitheroe, June 1869 Preston Lancs 8e 564 and John Clitheroe June 1869 Chorley 8e 449
There is also a John Clitheroe Dec 1868 Preston 8e 515. I know all these are Lancashire but that is the closest I could come to a Louisa.

There is a John Clithero on the 1881 census - in Kensington, born Kensington 1868
RG11/34/123/13 - father George (white smith) mother Sarah

The same family can be found in 1871 with the surname Glithero in Kensington
RG10/42/34/57

2 sisters neither born 1868 nor called Louisa

Yes I've found those but for some reason don't think it's my John Clithero.

As Clithero or Clitheroe is a Lancashire name I think there is a good chance of the family originating there but can't make the connection. The two may be unrelated but somehow I think that's unlikely. I need to find a Clithero family who moved to London and hope to find a connection

How about Rosetta Anne Louisa Clitherow baptised St Marys Lambeth 5/9/1869 father Richard mother Rosetta. I did spy a Richard John Clithero(w/e) somewhere too

  • I did find them and wondered, I just would like to find a few census returns with them all on. It doesn't work like that, does it? I may consider sending for Louisa Kidd's marriage cert to see who John's father is. As they are not my direct ancestors, I don't usually bother going to that trouble. I've also looked under Jack Clithero as he was usually called Jack.

John Clithero married Louisa Kidd in 1888 Brentford 3a 102
Louisa Clithero married Samuel Kidd 1896 Brentford 3a 147
I have looked for the m/c's online but so far nothing

I know he was called Jack because my Great Auntie Florrie, my Grandma Eleanor's youngest sister was sent to live with Auntie Louie and Uncle Jack when their mother died when Eleanor was 11 and Florrie was 5. There were older children who were working and another brother Billy who was about 7 at the time. Charles William Kidd must have felt he couldn't look after little Florrie at the time. She came back to the family in Yorkshire when he remarried in 1919

I get the impression that Florrie was considered to be a bit spoilt by her older siblings. She was apparently pushed around in a pram by her mother until she was nearly 5. I think as her Mum died of heart failure she probably found pushing a pram around easier that walking without it, a bit like a zimmer. I also think Eleanor had a lot of responsibility for Florrie as a child. Auntie Florrie once said "Our Nellie used to grab me in one hand and Billy in the other and drag us along". My Grandma did feel responsible for Florrie. When they were elderly and Eleanor in a care home and she heard that Florrie had lost her husband, she was concerned that she couldn't go and look after Florrie.

I've got the Kidd's. It was just that Louisa Kidd and Samuel Kidd both married a Clithero from Chiswick. I wondered if John Clithero and Louisa Clithero were brother and sisteror perhaps cousins. It appears to complicate things as Samuel's sister and wife are both called Louisa.

This Louisa & Samuel were siblings. Samuel has same birth date as he who married Louisa Clitheroe.
Both born Hornsey via 1881 Census.

If this is John Clithero and Louisa (nee Kidd) in the 1911 census it says he was born Bennett St Chiswick.

Registration District Number: 128

I have a Samuel and Louisa Kidd 1901 census. He was born Battersea and Louisa born Chiswick.

Here are Chiswick baptism on FamilySearch. I have tried Clithero and Clethero, maybe someone else can have a go.

Just trying all angles.:) Couldn't come even close in the census either! Maybe someone with more expertise can find them.
