Frampton, Dorset - Parish registers

Well I am none the wiser ;), although I have amended the transcription to Swatter??

Next one  Ancestry and I do not agree, they have Hooper for Francis's surname, I think it begins with Lo and ends in er and not at all certain what is in the middle

But the first letter does look awfully like the H at the beginning of Hardy, further down the page...having said that, I don't think it is Hooper. I may have to come back to this later on when my eyes have woken up more

Ann

To me it looks like the upright of the H without the following arc, hence my thought it was L

Loader is a good old Dorset name and I am tempted by that, however can't quite manage to force a d out of those squiggles ...

I am not convinced the first letter ia an 'L' looking at the 'L' in Jone Little above the stroke starts in a different place with Francis' surname.
The letter does look similar to the 'H' in John Hardy below this entry, but missing the extra swirl.
That said I cannot see Hooper either.
Hor?er (? not a 'd' I think)

does anyone make anything of the father's name here? I think I'll hold back from saying what I think until you have all had a go ;)

Well, at first I thought it was total gobbledegook...then I thought it was Jserall....which led me to Israel.....which made me think it might be Iserall o_O

So, looking at the Frampton PR's on Ancestry, looks like it might be right as there are records for the name Iserall and variations :)

Ann

Thank you :)

Ann you got there much quicker than I did! On the baptisms I was looking at it tended to get transcribed as F(f)ovell .

I should have remembered the Israels I had found previously , even when I eventually did remember I wasn't sure that I wasn't forcing it, so thanks for the back up ;)

I have been consistent in my transcription of John Stroud's Wife's name, so has the transcriber on Ancestry -- only problem is we don't agree

any offers?

I see Ancestry has Avice - Family Search has Auice - it could be Anice, and at a quick glance it looks like Anne.....o_O Both Avice and Anice, are names........so I think it is one of them

Ann

Hi Ann :)
Actually, for this 1695 death and the other entries I double checked they have Anice
Name: Anice Stroud
Spouse: John Stroud
Vital: 11 Apr 1695 - Frampton, Dorset, England

I've gone for Avice -- but was painfully aware of the potential for uncertainty and ambiguity

After I posted I started looking for examples of this name and discovered one of the earliest entries was for the baptism of a child of John and Avis Strood -- guess some part of my tiny brain had held on to that:)

Think I should (1) do more checks before I post so as not to waste anyone's time, and (2) maybe have more faith in myself

[edit] the other thing is I obviously have a faultily weighted memory as I could have sworn to more finding of the name Anice instead of Avice, even given that there were other women in Frampton with this name when I did a search just noe for examples of Anice there weren't that many ...

I guess I've been quite lucky in that between 1653 and 1695 there were only two scribes to contend with, now there is a third (this one can actually spell Elizabeth ;)) neat but tiny handwriting and not much given to spacing between lines, hence my current request --

Elizabeth Banger ye Daughter of Pet[er?] Banger ????? and Margryt his wife was buryed August 20th [1696]

is the mystery word a place name, an occupation?? does it say 'wray'??

To be fair; he's not MY vicar (a Mr Forseth/Forsyth) but minister of a different neighbouring parish ... just looked him up on CCED

Think he is the son of a previous vicar of Frampton Barnard/Bernard BANGER
